We aim to get every fact right. When we don’t, we correct it openly and promptly.
How to report an error
Email [email protected] with the article link, what you believe is wrong and any evidence. We aim to respond within two working days.
What we correct
Factual errors, wrong figures, names, dates or titles, misquotes, and headlines or images that misrepresent the story.
How we correct
We fix the article and add a note at the bottom explaining what changed, for example:
Correction, 12 November 2026: An earlier version of this article said the energy price cap would rise by £150. The rise is £105. This has been corrected.
Serious errors
When an error changes the meaning of a story, the correction note goes at the top of the article. If the error appeared on our social media, we post the correction there too.
Minor fixes
Spelling, grammar and typos that don’t change the meaning are fixed without a note.
Clarifications
When an article is accurate but could mislead or lacks important context, we add a clarification note explaining what we’ve added.
Updates
New information on a developing story is an update, not a correction. Updated articles show the date of the latest update.
Retractions
We remove an article only after the editor has reviewed it and found fundamental flaws. We always publish an editor’s note explaining why.
Removal requests
We don’t remove or change accurate articles because someone asks. We will consider exceptional cases, such as a risk to someone’s safety or a legal requirement.
Not satisfied?
If you disagree with our response, email the editor at [email protected], marking it “Complaint”. The editor will review it and reply in writing.
