These standards apply to everyone who writes, edits or contributes to Daily View. They set out how we report, how we check facts and how we keep news separate from opinion and advertising.
Accuracy and verification
We check facts against primary sources wherever possible: government publications, HMRC, Ofgem, the ONS, the Bank of England, court records and official statements. Figures, dates and eligibility rules are checked against the original source before publication. Claims that don’t come from an official source are confirmed with more than one source wherever possible. When something can’t be verified, we say so.
Sourcing and attribution
When we use reporting from news agencies or other outlets, we name and link them. We link to original documents, data and announcements so readers can check them. We never present another outlet’s work as our own.
Anonymous sources
We grant anonymity only when a source would face real risk and the information is in the public interest. The editor must know the source’s identity. We don’t grant anonymity so people can avoid accountability for their opinions.
Money and policy reporting
We explain how decisions affect people’s money; we don’t give personal financial advice. Our articles are general information, not advice for individual circumstances. When we give figures, we state the date, the source and any assumptions. Worked examples are labelled as examples. Where official calculators or guidance exist, such as on GOV.UK, we link to them.
Headlines
Headlines reflect what the article says. We don’t exaggerate amounts, deadlines or eligibility, and we don’t suggest a payment, rule change or risk applies to everyone when it applies to some.
Fairness and impartiality
Daily View is not affiliated with any political party. We report policies and positions fairly, and when we report serious criticism of a person or organisation, we give them a chance to respond before publication wherever possible.
News and opinion
Opinion and analysis pieces are clearly labelled and kept separate from news reporting.
Updates
When a story develops, we update it and show the updated date. Breaking news is updated as facts are confirmed.
Corrections
When we get something wrong, we correct it promptly and explain what changed. See our Corrections Policy.
Images
We use images we have the right to publish and credit them. We don’t use images in a way that misrepresents an event, and we don’t use AI-generated images to depict real people or real events.
AI use
We use AI tools for research and transcription only. Every article is written and edited by our team before publication.
Conflicts of interest
Writers declare any personal or financial interest in a story to the editor before working on it. We don’t accept payments or gifts in return for coverage.
Advertising and sponsored content
Advertisers have no say over editorial decisions. Sponsored content is always labelled “Sponsored”, and links in it are marked as paid. See our Ownership & Funding page.
Vulnerable people
We take particular care when reporting on children, victims of crime, bereaved families and people in vulnerable situations, and we avoid unnecessary intrusion into private grief.
