The England captain, named the world’s best player last week, has signed a deal reported to make him Europe’s highest-paid footballer.
Harry Kane has signed a new contract with Bayern Munich that runs until 30 June 2029, the German champions have announced.
The 33-year-old England captain, who won the Ballon d’Or last week, has scored 156 goals in 161 competitive appearances since joining from Tottenham Hotspur in 2023.
“I feel right at home at FC Bayern. I love the club, the fans and the city of Munich,” Kane said. “We have a fantastic team and, in Vincent Kompany, a fantastic manager. My whole family is very happy here. I was keen to stay.”
Bayern did not disclose financial details, but the deal is reported to be the most lucrative in the club’s history, worth around £400,000 a week. That would make it the highest guaranteed basic salary in European football.
Bayern’s leadership hailed the extension. “The Ballon d’Or winner is staying at Bayern Munich!” said chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesen. “His contract extension is a commitment to FC Bayern and to a story that is far from over.”
Club president Herbert Hainer said Kane had “secured his place in the hearts of the fans as one of the greatest figures in the sport of our time”.
Max Eberl, the board member for sport, said the deal gave the club “certainty in our planning”, while sporting director Christoph Freund described Kane as “the best all-round striker in the world”.
Kane moved to Bayern in the summer of 2023 for an initial fee of around £86m (€100m). He has since won two Bundesliga titles, the DFB Cup and two Franz Beckenbauer Supercups, and has finished as the league’s top scorer every season.
Last season he scored a club-record 61 goals in 51 games as Bayern won the league and cup double.
In September, he became the fastest player in German history to reach 100 Bundesliga goals, doing so in 98 games and beating the record set by Dieter Müller in 1977 by 31 games.
He was named Germany’s Footballer of the Year in 2026 and has twice won the Golden Shoe as Europe’s top scorer, in 2023-24 and 2025-26.
Kane’s Ballon d’Or made him the first Englishman to win the award in 25 years, since Michael Owen in 2001, and the first Bayern player to win it since Karl-Heinz Rummenigge in 1981. He has scored 89 goals for club and country since the start of August 2025.
He captained England to third place at the World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the US in the summer.
This month he equalled Peter Shilton’s England men’s record of 125 caps, and he has scored 91 international goals. He is expected to break the appearance record during the coming international break.
Tottenham are reported to have kept first-option matching rights on Kane, despite his new deal.
The clause, agreed as part of his 2023 transfer, is said to cover his entire time at Bayern regardless of any contract changes. It would apply only if Bayern agreed to sell him, and would give Spurs the chance to match any fee agreed with a rival club. There is no fixed price.
Bayern are said to regard Kane as “untouchable”, and there is no suggestion that a return to north London is in his thinking. Kane spent 19 years at Tottenham, from the academy to the first team, and is the club’s all-time top scorer with 280 goals.
Last month he raised the possibility of one day ending his career in Major League Soccer in the US.
The new deal raises fresh doubts over whether Kane will ever break Alan Shearer’s Premier League scoring record of 260 goals. Kane had scored 213 Premier League goals when he left Tottenham, 47 short of Shearer’s total.
He will be 35 when his new contract ends in June 2029.
